March 9: Orthodox Christianity and Buddhism
Buddhists in the US are double the number of Orthodox Christians, and most American Buddhists are Western, not raised in Buddhist traditions. Kevin and his guests Fr. Brendan Pelphrey (GOA), an ex-missionary in Asia who has had dialogue with the Dalai Lama, and R. Todd Godwin, ex-Buddhist and Orthodox Christian, will discuss the attractions of Buddhism, as well as its key teachings and practices, in comparison with and in contrast to those of Eastern Orthodox Christianity.
March 23: Pentecostalism and Eastern Orthodox Christianity
Pentecostalism, as well as its Evangelical Charismatic offshoot, is one of the fastest-growing Christian movements in the US and many parts of the world. Its influence has spread beyond Protestantism and has even impacted the Roman Catholic Church. Latest estimates rank Pentecostalism's adherents as high as 280 million, as large as the adherents of the global Eastern Orthodox Church. On March 23rd, host Kevin Allen's guest is ex-Pentecostal Christian pastor, media consultant, and now Greek Orthodox Christian priest and speaker, Fr. Barnabas Powell. They will talk about the early 20th century origins of Pentecostalism, its emergence as a popular Christian movement, its key beliefs, and why Fr. Barnabas left traditional Pentecostalism to became an Eastern Orthodox Christian.
