One night, after the wise men who had been visiting Jesus left, Joseph had a special dream. In his dream, an angel talked to him. The angel told Joseph to take Jesus and Mary to Egypt. The angel told Joseph that King Herod had found out about Jesus when the wise men came looking for Him. Now, Herod wanted to kill Jesus!
Joseph got up right away while it was still night. He took Jesus and Mary to Egypt, just like the angel told him to do.
Jesus was safe in Egypt. And when King Herod died, an angel visited Joseph in another dream. This time, the angel told him it was safe to go back to Israel.
Joseph obeyed the angel again,…

Over and over again in the Divine Liturgy and the other liturgical services of the Church we implore the divine mercy … Kyrie Eleison, Kyrie Eleison, Kyrie Eleison.  These petitions are made with confidence not with fear.  We are not slaves before a tyrant, we are sons and daughters of God before our Heavenly Father who is merciful and calls forth mercy from His children.  This is our confidence:-  God loves us and his will for us is entirely beneficial.

Now, the word “icon” is taken from the Greek word for “image”; and what the 350 bishops who attended this council were considering was a very important question: Who is Christ? Their answer still rings out to us today: Christ is both God and man. It is precisely because God became man that it is fit and proper that the image of Christ should be painted. The Council concluded that “the incarnation of the…

I spent the weekend in Portland, Oregon where I was treated ever so kindly by the warm and hospitable ladies of St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church. Have you ever been to Portland before? I hadn’t. If you’re into awesomeness, you’d love it. I felt healthier just looking at all the bike trails, walking trails, vegetarian restaurants and organic grocery stores lining its scenic landscape. I’d like to go back someday and take my time exploring more of Portland’s fascinating regional treasures.

This particular trip was a whirlwind. I arrived on a Friday afternoon and flew back home early Sunday morning. Those brief…
