One day, when our Lord Jesus Christ came ashore, He saw many people. He felt sorry for them and healed the ones who were sick. He also taught the people, for a long time.
Evening came, and the disciples came to Jesus and said, “We are far from a town and the day is done. Send the people to get some food for themselves.”
Jesus said, “They don’t need to go away. You give them something to eat.”
The disciples said, “All we have is five loaves of bread and two fish.”
Jesus said, “Bring them here to me.” Then He told everyone to sit down on the grass. He looked up to Heaven and blessed and broke the loaves.…

At that time, Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He dismissed the crowds. And after He had dismissed the crowds, He went up into the hills by Himself to pray.
When evening came, He was there alone, but the boat was in the middle of the sea, beaten by the waves; for the wind was against it. And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus came to them, walking on the sea.
But when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were terrified, saying, “It is a spirit!” And they cried out for fear. But immediately, Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart, it is I; have no fear.”

One evening, our Lord Jesus Christ had his disciples get into a boat and go to the other side of the sea. While they went, He sent away the crowd that had come. Then, He went up into the hills, to pray.
While He was praying alone, the wind came up against the boat and waves beat against it. Very late at night, Jesus came to His disciples. He was walking on the sea! When the disciples saw that, they were very afraid. They thought He was a ghost. They screamed because they were afraid.
Jesus spoke to them, “Relax! It is I! Don’t be afraid!”
As He heard this, Peter said, “Lord, if it is really you, call me to come to…

In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Amen.  This is the feast of all the Saints of Great Britain and Ireland.  We may summarise this as the feast of the Saints of the Isles.  Now, it is a bit of a revelation to many people that the Orthodox Church venerates the Saints of the west.  Well we do, in fact we venerate the vast majority of them and I will explain why this is the case in a moment.

There is a great Greek saint of the island of Paros, St Arsenios, who lived in the 19th century.  He said this, “when the church of the British Isles begins to venerate her own saints, then the Church will…

The Lord said, “If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it; and whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s will save it. For what does it profit a man, to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? For what can a man give in return for his soul?
For whoever is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of man also be ashamed, when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.” And Jesus said to them, “Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste…
