A Prayer Against Evil Thoughts
December 20, 2010 Length: 1:01
A prayer from the Trebnic for God's help in overcoming evil thoughts.
Is it a real battle for you to keep your mind from wandering to thoughts and daydreams that you know you shouldn’t entertain? Here’s a prayer from the Orthodox Service Book (Trebnic) to help with this problem:
May those who war against me be put to shame, and may those who seek to separate me from Thee through immodest acts, unseemly thoughts, and unprofitable reflections be turned back. Chase far from me every filthiness which is superabundance of evil. For Thou alone art holy; Thou alone art mighty; Thou alone art immortal, having unfathomable power against all things; and it is through Thee that every power is given against the Devil and his forces.
"You have been a blessing to me in ways that words cannot possibly explain. For this I'm indebted to you for life already, for in your podcasts you have unlocked the beauty of Orthodox Christianity that has been reflected for over two thousand years. As I listen to your commentaries, my soul is moved because I reflect on the true meaning of what it means to be a Christian in the light of the apostles and compare my own state of unworthiness to that which I aspire to become."
