St. Nectarios of Aegina on paying attention to the spiritual life.
It’s extremely easy to become distracted—there are always books to read, web sites to visit, programs to watch, even daydreaming to do. But St. Nectarios of Aegina says that being attentive is essential to the spiritual life, because
Attention awakens the soul, rouses it from sleep…Attention examines every thought, every desire, every memory…One must remember the saving words of the Lord: ‘Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation.’ He who is wakeful does not enter into temptation, because he is vigilant and attentive.
Like your school teachers always told you—pay attention!
"Thank you so much for AFR. I am a Sunday School teacher, and I have learned so much from the podcasts, which help me to prepare for my class and round out my abysmal education. I've listened to the Clark Carlton series and am now listening to Paradise and Utopia. A great education!"
