Pay Attention to Your Heart
January 26, 2011 Length: 1:01
St. Seraphim of Sarov on attending to the activity of your heart.
Transcript
In the previous episode I quoted St. Isaac the Syrian, who tells us to look for God in our heart. St. Seraphim of Sarov further tells us to pay close attention to what is going on in our heart, and compare it to what we learn from the Church:
He who is traveling the path of heedfulness should not trust only his own heart, but should verify the workings of his heart and his life with the law of God and with the active life of ascetics of piety who have passed through such endeavor. By this means one may the more easily both save oneself from the evil one and more clearly behold the truth.
"I want to thank you for your ministry. I have been listening to AFR for several years now, but it means more to me this year than ever. I am working in the Middle East as part of a multinational peacekeeping force, but I am the only Orthodox Christian on camp. The priests and ministers available to me are Catholic and Protestant. While good men, they can't offer me the Sacraments or church experience I need. When I am most lonely and homesick, I can boot up my laptop and log in to AFR, and my whole outlook is changed in an instant. Being able to hear the words and sounds of my faith, especially here, means more to me than you can ever know. Thank you, thank you, thank you. And God bless you all!"
