St. John Climacus on what constitutes true discernment.
When you were young and made a bad choice, the adults in your life probably told you to use discernment next time. This raises the question: what is true discernment? St. John Climacus answers,
Discernment in beginners is true knowledge of themselves; in intermediate souls, it is a spiritual sense that faultlessly distinguishes what is truly good from what is of nature and opposed to it; and in the perfect, it is the knowledge which they have within by Divine illumination, and which can enlighten with its lamp what is dark in others.
"Our family has loved AFR and it has been a big blessing. It's constantly on in the car, at work, and at home. We especially enjoy it for our journey to attend services at our parish. It's excellent for getting your mind and spirit ready for worship. Even our 4-year-old daughter asks us to "play that church music!" The talk shows and podcasts are very informative, and we like the wide range of topics covered."
