High in the Swiss canton of Valais, the Rhône Glacier feeds a river of the same name. It flows south and west, through the lake of Geneva, out of the Alps and down through southern Gaul where, before receiving, continuing to the Mediterranean, it receives its largest tributary, the Saône.
