Names of Jesus

Jesus - The Lord

Episode date:
Transcript published:

In Matthew 22, Jesus asked "What do you think of the Christ? Whose Son is He?" What follows is a dialog about David's son and his statement in Psalm 110 "The Lord said to my Lord..." What does it mean that Jesus is The Lord?

We are reflecting on the names and titles of Jesus our Lord, Savior, Jesus the Christ according to the Holy Scriptures. So far we reflected on the name Jesus, the name given to him by God through the angel according to the Holy Scriptures. The name Jesus, which is Yeshua or Joshua, which means savior or victor or conqueror or the one who triumphs, this is the name given to Jesus. And we reflected on that name, and we also reflected on what it can mean, that he is…

Jesus - I Am

Where and why in the Scriptures is the term "I Am" used to refer to Christ and why is it so critical to His identity?

We have been meditating and reflecting on the names and titles of Jesus in the Scripture: that he is named Jesus which means the savior. He is confessed as “ho Christos” the messiah, the Christ, the anointed one. He is confessed as the son of God, the literal son of the one true God who is his Abba Father and that he is confessed as the Lord. And when we were reflecting on the title “the Lord” for Jesus, which is throughout the New…

We saw that in being called Son of God, that is an expression that led to the conclusion…

What does it mean to say that we are "bought with a price"? Fr. Tom talks about redemption and how Christ has "purchased us" with his own blood or Life.

As we continue reflecting on the names and the titles of Jesus in the Holy Scripture, we want to think today, and meditate a bit today, on the fact that Jesus Christ, Jesus the Messiah, is our Redeemer, our Ransomer. In the Scripture he is called, not only the Redeemer, but our Redemption.

I guess the text that we would want to hear on that one would be the first Corinthian letter where the apostle is speaking about the Cross of Christ, and the word of the…

Jesus - The True Vine

Episode date:

Fr. Tom explores the last of the "I Am" statements in St. John's Gospel.

As we continue to reflect on the names and titles of Jesus, we come to what I believe, if I have counted correctly, is the last of the specific “I Am” statements that we find in the Gospel of Saint John.

We saw how in the Gospel of Saint John you have Jesus using the expression “I Am” for Himself, which we connect with the name that God gave to Moses. And then we saw a number of them that he speaks of with a predicate nominative: I…
